"HEARTS FOR HAITI" Campaign

“HEARTS for HAITI “

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

In response to the Haitian Earthquake tragedy students, parents, staff and community members are invited to participate in our elementary school “Hearts for Haiti” campaign.

WHAT IS PLANNED?: We are looking raise funds through voluntary donations to support Haitian earthquake relief efforts by supporting several organizations that have been engaged in development work in Haiti for many years. We are considering the needs of three organizations two of which have a connection to the Tri-Town:

• Partners In Development (based in Ipswich) www.pidonline.org , which has been involved in Haiti for more than 20 years and has received ongoing support from a number of local organizations and individuals in our towns.
• A school in Haiti which we are learning more about through a contact that one of our teachers has with a college classmate who operates the school in Haiti.
• UNICEF www.unicef.org, the United Nations Children’s Fund which has long engaged in efforts to support the needs children throughout the world.

HOW CAN WE PARTICIPATE? Children, families and staff may make a donation of in any amount to home room teachers or directly to each school office between Wednesday, January 26th and Friday, February 12th. Each donor will receive a paper heart which may be decorated and/or labeled for display. The donated hearts will be displayed in each of our schools either in the main entrance lobby or in the school cafeteria. We hope to have enough contributors from children families and staff to display more than 2,500 hearts in our schools. As we were able to do in response to Hurricane Katrina we intend to learn as much as possible about the impact of any support we are able to offer. We were able to support the installation of new playground equipment for a school in Bogalusa, LA and our students were able to learn more about Louisiana and see through pictures and contacts with the school the results of their efforts.

HOW WILL CONTRIBUTIONS BE HANDLED? Volunteers from the Boxford, Middleton and Topsfield PTOs will provide support with the logistics in each of our schools. The Tri-Town Council has agreed to collect all donations for deposit until funds are ready to distribute to the organizations designated to receive our support.

Please contact your school principal with any questions you may have. Thank you for your support.

Regards,

Bernard F. Creeden
